Robert E. Cooper ::  Seattle architect was known for designing grand homes in the Northwest Modern style. He formed a partnership with Phillip C. Sawers (1955-1962). Together, the two quickly rose to prominence designing several high-end custom homes, many of which received local and regional press. These included the Ben Smith House (1958), an all steel-framed house on Beacon Hill designed to maximize views to the west; and the high-end, Miesian style, steel-framed Herbert Gottschalk House (1962) on Mercer Island which utilized twelve tons of steel to cantilever some 16’ over a ravine.

William Bain ::  A wonderful Broadmoor home by famed architect William J. Bain (founder of NBBJ). One of Seattle’s most prominent architects. This 5,790 sq ft home on a double lot includes 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths on 2 levels, plus courtyard.

Long before Broadmoor was settled, the Puget Mill Company snapped up this land and began logging the trees. Then, during the time of the development of the University of Washington, who wanted to create the arboretum, part of the land was traded for that cause in return for utility work for a new residential community.  As a result, Broadmoor was made possible. Since then, more land has been incorporated to make the Broadmoor Golf Club.
Founded in the 1920s, you will find many styles of homes here, including many wonderful custom mid-century moderns.

Broadmoor is a gated community: Gate code and RSVP required to enter the gate on Madison. Members who RSVP will be given access instructions. Attendance limited.
